American singer, songwriter and musician born December 5th, 1938, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA. He died of a heart attack on July 26th, 2013, at Scripps Hospital in La Jolla, CA, USA. He was married to . Professionally known as J.J. Cale, he was an American singer-songwriter, recording artist and influential guitar stylist. Though he deliberately avoided the limelight (being temperamentally averse to celebrity) his influence as a musical artist has been widely acknowledged by figures such as Mark Knopfler, Neil Young and Eric Clapton who described him as one of the most important artists in the history of rock. He is considered to be one of the originators of the Tulsa Sound, a loose genre drawing on blues, rockabilly, country and jazz.

When I heard that JJ passed away, I scrambled to find my JJ Cale's Greatest Hits CD and played this song for the whole week. This song came out when I was a freshman in high school and I've been loving it ever since. Never did care too much for Eric Clapton's rendition though...I like this slow, soft version.

Sono anch'io un grande ammiratore della musica di JJ Cale, anche di quella meno conosciuta (ad esempio Five). Aveva però un grande limite nelle prestazioni dal vivo: la sua naturale ritrosia gli impediva di interagire con il pubblico. Suppliva con il carisma e con la stima di cui era circondato, anche da parte dei colleghi: non solo Clapton, ma anche, e forse ancor più Knopfler, e perfino Santana.
